“Your Car Your Choice” Week highlights Independent Repairers

Your Car Your Week is Launched by Northern Ireland Bodyshop Alliance Committee Members Richard Hastings, Jim Porter, Jonathan McKeown and Glyn Hanna.

 Motorists are being urged to support independent car accident repair centres as part of “Your Car Your Choice” week which runs from 24th to 30th September.

 

There are over 120 independent repairers across Northern Ireland providing a local service to motorists involved in accidents.  The campaign week is being backed by the Northern Ireland Bodyshop Alliance and sponsored by leading accident management firm CRASH Services, who have also produced an educational video to highlight common issues these businesses face.

Insurance Giant AXA accused of underpaying policyholder's vehicle damage claims
Northern Ireland’s largest motor insurer has been accused by the independent car repair industry of using bullying methods to control where and how much is paid for car repairs here, leading to consumer’s losing out on what they are entitled to under their policy.

A survey of over 25 repairers carried out on behalf of trade organisation, the Northern Ireland Bodyshop Alliance has resulted in the first locally available evidence of what is seen as AXA’s attempts to pay less to a policyholder who chooses to use their own case repairer instead of the repairer chosen by AXA.

One of Northern Ireland’s largest car industry bodies said today (Wednesday 6th April, 2016) that lives were being put at risk in Northern Ireland because of the widespread use of cheap, replica car parts.

The Northern Ireland Bodyshop Alliance (NIBA), which represents more than 50 independent car repair garages and more than 200 professional mechanics, said it was now deeply concerned about driver and passenger safety after analysing the results of the region’s first major independent study into the issue.

NI Car Repairers Warn Over Motorist Safety

A group representing more than 200 car repairers employed across over 50 independent small and medium-sized businesses in Northern Ireland warned today that lives could be put at risk by a range of "questionable" practices which it said were being carried out by members of the motor insurance industry.
 
The Northern Ireland Bodyshop Alliance (NIBA) said it is now urging Stormont to more urgently review the car insurance sector, which it said is putting its members under increasing pressure to cut corners in a bid to save money and maintain profit margins.
 

 

NIBA Chairman Sean Bradley outlined the organisation's concerns following its annual general meeting.
